The Dallas Cowboys just pulled of a huge trade with the Cleveland Browns that allows the Browns to get their man Brady Quinn. The Cowboys received Cleveland’s 2nd round pick at #36 and their 2008 #1 pick!
What a move for the ‘Boys. Think about the trade for a minute, that could be the number one pick in 2008! At worst, it should be a top 5 pick next year.
The Astros have acquired right-hander Jason Jennings from the Rockies, according to FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal.
Looks like Purpura gave up a ton (Willy T, Buchholz, Hirsch) to get Jennings. Let’s hope the native-Texan has success in Houston and agrees to a long-term deal.
According to the St. Louis Post Dispatch the Astros have also offered Jeff Suppan a contract. “Soup” would be a solid addition to the Astros rotation. Why would he want to play for the Royals or Pirates? They aren’t going anywhere.
On the heals of the Freddy Garcia trade, Phil Rogers at ChicagoSports.com writes:
Having inhaled their cigars and digested the developments, Williams declared his club has no plans to extend the contracts of Mark Buehrle beyond 2007 or Jon Garland, Jose Contreras and Javier Vazquez beyond 2008.
In other words between now and Opening Day 2009, the Sox either will trade or lose to free agency every member of the starting rotation, including the four guys who won a World Series 14 months ago. Are these guys nuts?
Now, the Houston Chronicle is reporting that “Astros set to get pitcher Jon Garland from White Sox“. This is a great move for the Astros if the price is only Taveras and Buchholz. I hate to lose Willy T’s defense, but pitching wins championships.
[Update 10:16AM] FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal says we need to tap the breaks Jon Garland being a done deal and adds that Jason Hirsch is in the deal as well.
Major props to Jon Daniels. He just pulled off a deal with the Doug Melvin (the best GM the Rangers have ever had) to land Carlos Lee and top prospect Nelson Cruz from the Brewers.
ESPN.com – MLB – Source: Brewers trade Lee to Rangers in 6-player deal
The Milwaukee Brewers are trading slugger Carlos Lee to the Texas Rangers as part of a multi-player deal, ESPN.com learned Friday.
The Brewers are sending Lee, minor-league outfield prospect Nelson Cruz and a player to be named later to the Rangers for relief pitcher Francisco Cordero and outfielders Kevin Mench and Laynce Nix.
Too bad, you can’t link to The Ticket’s radio signal. I head it there first!
Note to Houston…go get Tejada today!
