Now Reading

November 29, 2006

I just discovered and installed Rob Miller’s Now Reading plugin for WordPress. This looks like a useful addition to ecrosstexas.com. Now, just like everything else around here, I need to find time to customize it!

Check out the ecrosstexas library.

Buddy Cards

November 3, 2006

Thanks to Andy Skelton for pointing out Buddy Cards from 30 Boxes. Buddy Cards looks to be big improvement over Gravatars (with plenty of AJAX goodness)

Installation was a snap and now I am rolling with Buddy Cards too! Now, I just need some traffic.

Technorati API

June 3, 2003

David Sifry released an API to connect to Technorati’s weblog index and search engine a few weeks ago. Kalsey immediately built an MT plugin for it. Looks like a useful addition to the weblog community.

While my Related Entries plugin does a decent job of displaying blog entries that are similar to the current one, it requires that I stick to a somewhat rigid set of keywords or category classification in order to generate a high-quality list of related entries. As I get more and more entries, it is becoming difficult to stick to that system and I am finding that a number of entries on the site have related entries lists that aren’t very well related. An errant keyword leaves the whole system in disarray.

Adam Kalsey really knows his stuff. We will be implementing this soon…
