The Dallas Stars joined a flurry of NHL trade action, dealing Joe Nieuwendyk and Jamie Langenbrunner to the Devils from Jason Arnott, Randy McKay, and number 1 draft pick. While I hate to see Joe and Jamie go, this is a great trade for the Stars. They get younger and cheaper, without a talent drop off.
Nieuwendyk and Langenbrunner helped lead the Stars to the 1999 Stanley Cup Championship. Nieuwendyk was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the 1999 Stanley Cup Playoffs MVP. Jason Arnott scored the game winning goal for the Devils in 2000, claiming the Cup from the Stars.
