Step 2: Constructive Correction

The Gift of Rebuke

Titus 1:1-5. Titus 3:9-11

  1. Our beliefs: Avoid the bypass of false doctrines. Titus 1:10-15.
  2. What we believe determines everything about our lives. Characteristics of false teachers:

    • Rebelious
    • Mere talkers
    • Ruining households…causes unity and lifestyle problems.
  3. Our behavior: Avoid the bypass of unhealthy living. Titus 1:16.
  4. Love requires it: Colossians 3:16, Romans 15:14, Galatians 6:1.

  5. Unity: Avoid the bypass of causing divison. Titus 3:9-11.
  6. Unity is a major theme of the New Testament. We must strive for unity. John 17:20-26. Disunity:

    • Almost always about something insignificant.
    • Can be traced back to to one person or small group of people. See 1 Corinthians 3:16,17 as a warning against causing disunity.

Action to take

  • Commit to pray regularly for the Church (beliefs, behavior, and unity).
  • Watch your own life (beliefs, behavior, and unity).
  • Be willing to give the gift of rebuke when love demands it.
