After 30 years “The Last Picture Show” debuted at The Royal Theater in Archer City. The theater, made famous by the movie, was severely damaged in a fire before the filming began. The building wasn’t actually restored until 2000, when it was turned into an amphitheater and arts center.
The 1971 movie, based on the novel by Archer City native Larry McMurtry, was shown in its original 35 mm format Thursday and Friday nights at the Royal. McMurtry is best known for “Lonesome Dove”.
