Macworld brings LCD iMac, iPhoto, larger iBook

January 7, 2002

After weeks of speculation and hype Apple unveiled its newest products this morning at Macworld. OS X will finally be the default OS! Products include the new iMac and iPhoto along with a 14 inch iBook.

iPhoto sounds really great. Organizing and editing in one app, plus the ability to make your own hardbound photo book for $29.99. iPhoto is free for OS X owners. I wish the iBook would get a CPU boost, still at 600MHz. iMac is really an impressive unit…700 or 800MHz G4, 15 inch LCD, SuperDrive. The ulitimate digital hub, 5 USB and 2 Firewire ports. Jobs declares death to CRT at Apple. The iMac looks very cool. As with any all-in-one, upgradability is my concern. Top of the line 800 Mhz G4 256 MB RAM 60 GB drive Superdrive available at month end for only $1799. Get in line now!

Thanks to Tim Jarret for blogging the event from Apple Store in McLean, Virginia. It is great to read the announcements and opinions in near real time.

Steve Jobs’ keynote address was scooped by Apple’s own publicity campaign. News.com has the details as a Time cover story hit newstands Sunday evening in parts of the country and on Time Canada’s Web site.
